Trying French Girl Style

It seems like everywhere you look, someone is writing or obsessing over this so called “French Girl style”. When you really look into what they’re saying about their style, it is mostly an ode to looking and dressing in a minimal but authentically you way. The rules are you need a signature item, less is more in terms of jewelry, monochro colours are essential, and when in doubt do a bold lip. Not too hard, but you’re also not really supposed to think too much about it. So I tried it, kept it simple since I like to think I’m a pretty minimalist dresser to begin with.

Decorating pumpkins

My housemate and I wanted to get into the Halloween spirit but we are not the best at carving large pumpkins so we opted to colour and paint little baby pumpkins. A gorgeous pumpkin trend I am loving on Pinterest is painting the stem silver. I find its so classy and simple and it looks so cool.

What are you doing to your pumpkins this year? Let me know!

One of my Go-To pieces

There’s nothing like a jacket that adds that extra something to your look. That one piece that gives you the air of effortless, but also makes your cool factor go up 10 points. For me this is my leather jacket. It’s not the most practical of jackets seeing as it is rather cropped in the back, but I kind of dig that. It’s got some really powerful lines coupled with gorgeous details on the shoulders. It’s really cool, let’s be real. And paired with a floral blouse and plain black jeans toughens up the feminine tones to my look.

What’s your go to piece?

Irresistible Me Curling wand review

A few weeks ago my friends from Irresistible Me sent me their beautiful 8 in 1 Sapphire curling wand and I love it. The base and exchangeable curling wands come in a gorgeous carrying case (with a heat resistant glove, yay no burning!). I’ve tried it on my own hair and on my housemate Kim’s hair and both of us have been blessed with beautiful and long lasting curls!

Layering tips for the fall

One of my best tips for fall dressing is one warm sweater in a really good material. This is an investment piece that will keep you warm and also last you for a long time. The one I am wearing is in a really soft wool called merino wool. It’s honestly so cozy and it kept me warm through the coldest days of the winter. Other good materials to look for are cashmere, Persian wool, wool in general, stuff like that.

My sweater was knitted for me by my uncle, my blouse is Aritzia, my skirt is Urban Outfitters, and my shoes are Aldo.

Layer yourself up, friends, and remember: a good, warm, well made sweater will last you a lifetime.

Sweet Beats: Drake

It’s a pretty blessed time to be Canadian what with our new government (and hopefully some environmental changes will come with that) AND Drake released his video to Hotline Bling which has been everywhere the past two days, so if you haven’t seen it it’s right here!

Do wool coats mean it’s winter?

Verdict: Maybe.

Yesterday it snowed. Yup you read that right, snow: white, fluffy, evil snow. (Only evil because it’s October) I mean common nature, it’s been fall for a month and a half, and now you rip my sweaters away from me and thrust wool coats my way. It’s bitter sweet for me honestly because I do really love my wool coat, but it’s always a little lame when you have to bundle up because it’s freezing out. Oh well, Canada problems.

My coat is Aritzia, my pants are American apparel, my shirt is Zara, and my shoes are Rob Laver for Adidas

I do love the minimalism of colder days, what about you?

Sweet Beats: Hozier

Yesterday while I was trying to create meals out of random items in my fridge, my boyfriend asks if I want to hear a song, and I’m like “sure, why not?” And he plays me this song by Hozier called Jackie and Wilson and I recognize it from his album and I’m like oh cool did he make a video for his song? Nope. This is a video, but it’s of a live recording. What?! How is he so amazing live? This is what every artist should sound like! My jaw was on the ground. Like, common. Listen to it and let me know if you feel the same way!

Red is best

I love black and grey clothes. I have far too many of both and often find myself in these colours. And there is really nothing wrong with it, but I often think “hey wouldn’t wearing something colourful be more fun?” I know my boyfriend would love it if I stopped wearing all black at least once a week. So this red skirt is a good start.
